Established in 1980 by the Forrest family, the first oyster farming location at Barilla Bay was chosen for its water quality, total tidal water replacement, and proximity to the airport. At this time the beginning runs’ for pacific oysters, and a trivial shed providing shelter from the elements were built. Gloomy with conventional methods of farming which produced oysters of abnormal quality, Barilla Bay Tasmania set about developing new methods of cultivating oysters to further enhance the quality of their product, some of which are widely impaired today in Australian aquaculture farms. In 1988, the addition of a Processing Shed’ enabled the company to process, divide and load shellfish. The next major stage of development for Barilla Bay Tasmania was the opening of an la Harte restaurant and shop (to replace the farm shop’) in 2004. Guests enjoy local yield along with our new oysters on a daily basis in either the award-winning restaurant or the shop. The gentle taste and texture of Barilla Bay Oysters reflect the instinctive quality of the water in which they are grown. A minimum of 48 hours notice is needed to book a private tour. We cater for 20250 guests in the restaurant and Pearl Room. Positioned overhead the main restaurant, the Pearl Room provides an exclusive area for smaller groups. Our day ran so smoothly with a big thanks to Mandy. Lots of our guests told me and hubby it was the superior wedding and that is a reflection on Mandy and the Barilla Bay. They were excellent, very accommodating, especially the head chef and Madeleine. The relaxed atmosphere of our seafood restaurant will permit you to enjoy a totally Tasmanian dining experience.
